healing circles
I was first introduced to the idea of healing circles in Santa Fe, New Mexico, by Dr. Lewis Mehl-Madrona. Healing circles are not religious, they are not group therapy, they are not run by any one individual. Rather, they create a safe space meant to invoke and share healing energy for all of those who are present, and for those who are held in the hearts of the participants.
Any community -- whether family members, professional colleagues, people dealing with a specific illness or disease, and/or strangers, can choose to begin a healing circle. The circle may be arts-based. It can be conducted in silence, holding each other’s highest good in quiet mindfulness, as do the Quakers. Healing circles can include music or drumming. Always sacred, they connect us to each other, regardless of cultural background.
Each circle is begun very simply, by expressing a desire and asking a question: “How can we be healing for each other?” And that’s it.
The idea is that you can create your own healing circle from within your own community. Because each of us has the potential to become our own healers. And because the power of community is profound. Healing circles can teach us to begin using the riches that are already within us.
If you so desire, I will help you set up a healing circle, and teach you how to continue on your own. There is never any charge for helping to set up a healing circle.
